The grade 8 girls at Mobile Central High are flying high after their second big win of the season. They won the Grade 8A Girls NLBA East Coast Tournament this past weekend, February 10th-12th, 2023. The team hosted the tournament at Mobile Central High and were dominant from the start, going undefeated in the round robin. They came up against a tougher opponent in the semi-finals, but the Monarchs power shift was too good for the opposition to topple. In the finals, Mobile was neck and neck with the Grade 8s from MacDonald Drive Junior High, but again pulled away in the powershift. The team won the first NLBA tournament of the season in December at the annual Tip Off Tournament, hosted at the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Centre. This is a group of girls that are very dedicated to their sport. Some players on the team are in the gym fifteen hours a week honing their skills. As for the team, their commitment is evident with their attendance at their weekly 7:30am practice, as well as their regular Sunday time slot. This group of girls have a great future in the sport of basketball and as a coach I cannot wait to see where they will soar.
