The 2018 graduating class at Stella Maris Academy in Trepassey made a little history in the Town of Portugal Cove South last month as it was the very first time a Stella Maris graduation event was ever held in the Town. In a toast that was both jovial and nostalgic, Mayor Clarence Molloy said he was honoured to welcome the 2018 graduating students to the community to celebrate their achievements. The event was held in the Portugal Cove South Community Hall October 27. Mayor Molloy reminisced about where he went to school, up by Holy Rosary Church in the Cove, but noted that his Dad, the late Tom Molloy, attended school 100 years ago in a building located on the same spot where the community hall now stands. The PCS Community Centre was decorated beautifully and the welcome extended by Mayor Molloy and the community’s residents was appreciated by all in attendance. Congratulations to the 2018 graduates Adrianna Nichol, Riley Pennell and Dion Perry. Not only did they graduate from Stella Maris Academy, but they made a mark on the local history of Portugal Cove South as well.
Sincere thanks and appreciation to the Town of Portugal Cove South.
