The first meeting of the new year was a very brief one for Witless Bay Town council Tuesday.
The usual number of local residents who follow the meetings braved the cold weather to make it out, as council waded through a handful of topics on the short agenda.
The first item concerned the placement of washrooms at the town’s ballfield and playground area. Council decided to defer making a motion on the work until a later meeting.
After going in camera for further discussion, the council members returned to grant tax agreements for 2019 for businesses Armstrong’s B & B, Hair It Is, Witless Bay Suites and Witless Bay Hardware.
The last motion of the evening was for the council to continue to work with the regional fire department to secure a new tanker. That will entail making an application to the Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment for cost-shared funding to acquire a truck. Both motions passed unanimously.
